Our affordable two-day Foundation Course includes intensive, hands-on makeup training, providing basic training in professional makeup skills and artistry. This course also provides training in professional makeup skills, covering day, evening, and special occasion looks, leading to industry-recognised qualifications. The course is balanced between demonstrations and hands-on practical lessons.

What does this course cover?

This course is aimed towards beginners who wish to learn all the basic skills in professional makeup artistry, with no previous experience necessary for this course. It also has value for students who wish to refresh or update their current skills in retail. It covers day, evening, and special occasion looks, plus all the techniques required to achieve this end. You will be working in a professional makeup studio and being taught by a working make-up artist.

At the end of this course?

Following on from the Basic course of intensive training, students will complete an at-home study programme using the course notes provided and complete a training portfolio of evidence including a practical and written assignment, plus approximately 15–20 make-up looks to complete on family and friends.

To meet Foundation certification requirements to be eligible to take the 6-day makeup course, You need to enrol for a third lesson for the professional bridal lesson.

You will come back for one day once you have completed your portfolio work (we estimate this work can take up to 2 months to complete), and then you can take the SBMS external practical exam and multiple-choice theory paper. Only once you have completed the home study programme can you come back to take the practical examination. You can book your exam below the link to the qualifications section. After all, you will receive an industry-recognised qualification through the SBMS

For all make-up courses, you will require your own set of professional make-up brushes and brush dry-cleaner (not included).

  • The minimum age for entry to this course is 18 years.
  • The majority of products, including make-up, skincare, and disposable items, are provided.
  • Brushes are not included. You will require professional make-up brushes. You can buy our SBMS brush set and cleaner.

  • You will be required to bring a digital photographic device(phone or camera) to keep a record of your work. Please backup your photographs regularly during the course.
  • All students will be working on each other. If you have problematic skin, or cannot be worked on for any other reason, you will be required to bring in a model to replace yourself.
